Bed & Child HeightUpdated 9 months ago

We put together some helpful guidelines for choosing the perfect height loft or bunk bed for your child!

Loft Beds

Low Height Loft

Our lowest raised bed, this option is best suited for smaller children around age six. With a bed that rests only three feet off the floor, climbing up is safe and easy. Choose a staircase or angled ladder for the easiest entry. Under-bed space is also perfect for playtime and storage.

Mid Height Loft

Raised ten more inches than our low version, the Mid Loft is designed to provide ample under-bed space and is ideal for kids around eight years old. Use the free space below for the perfect storage or study spot or leave it open to create their favorite play area. At only 61.5 inches tall, most children will be able to sit up comfortably regardless of ceiling height.

High Loft

Our High Lofts are recommended for older kids, tweens, and teens. The distance from the floor to the slats on these beds measures 52.5 inches - providing plenty of under-bed space to sit comfortably at a desk. With an overall height of 70.75" inches, our High Lofts are compatible with 8-foot ceilings when paired with a low-profile mattress.

Ultra Loft

Want to go all the way up? Our Ultra High Loft is 6.5 inches taller than our regular High Loft. We recommend this bed for tweens, teens, and college students. Our Ultra High Loft beds offer the same benefits as our High Loft, with a few extra inches of under-bed space. Be sure to check the ceiling height of your room before deciding on an Ultra High Loft.

Bunk Beds

Low Height Bunk

Low-height bunks are ideal for kids around six years old. At 61.5 inches tall, the top bunk is a safe height for little ones. Our low bunk beds' shorter height also makes it perfect for smaller spaces and lower ceilings.

Medium Height Bunk

The medium height bunk is great for children around age eight. With an extra five inches of overall bed height, you'll get more headroom between the top and bottom bunks. One of our most popular styles, our Medium Bunks are perfect for a variety of different size spaces.

High Bunk

Our High Bunk Beds are best suited for older kids around ten years old. This option gives you the most headroom between the two beds and provides the perfect space for taller children or even adults to sit comfortably on the bottom bunk. Be sure to check the ceiling height in your room when considering a High Bunk Bed.

A few final things to consider...

Choose the right mattress!

A low-profile option will maximize headroom between the top & bottom beds and between the top bed & ceiling. Most importantly, low profile mattresses will provide the greatest protection from the guardrail system.

How to calculate ceiling “headroom”:

Start by subtracting 16 inches from the overall bed height. The resulting number will be the height at which the mattress will rest.

Next, add the thickness of your mattress. This will determine the height at which your child will be laying.

Now take the measurement resulting from Step 2 and subtract this from your ceiling height.

For example, let’s say you want to put a High Loft Bed (71” H) in a room with 8-foot (96”) ceilings. Your mattress is 5 inches thick.

71” - 16” =

55”

55” + 5” =

60”

96”- 60” =

36” of head room
